On Sunday 6th of March 2011 Leicester saw it’s 1st MMA show in the city centre and a legion of Leicester Shootfighters fans filled the Liquid Envy nightclub to loudly support the team.
The fight card was unfortunately racked by last minute pull outs and opponent changes but LSF’s team still put in a fantastic showing.
On the Pro MMA card:
Karsten Lenjoint defeated Scottish prospect Dean Reily by TKO from a knee and punches in the 2nd round in a bout mostly fought in the clinch.
Mahmood Besherate defeated Stuart Gillam by stoppage from a cut caused by elbows in ground and pound.
Subaig Singh‘s fight was ruled a no contest after an alleged low blow but his Wolfslair opponent Thiago Macedo was sent to hospital with a broken orbital bone in his face that came from a crushing elbow strike.
In the Semi-Pro fights:
Liam Corrigan stopped Keiron Rolfe with strikes from mount quickly in the first round in a dominating performance.
LSF’s Keiren Lewin and Ranjeet Baria didn’t get to compete as their opponents pulled out of the match ups.
Ed Pang lost a close majority decision, Daniel Swan‘s fight was stopped by the ref on the ground and JD Hylton moved up the fight card after another pull out to face Yannick Bahati but despite a dominating start fell prey to a submission.
In the Amateur MMA bouts:
Courtney Rawle defeated Carl Murphy by decision in the opening match of the night.
Jamie Molyneaux‘s opponent pulled out so he was unable to compete.
Congratulations to the fighters on their performances representing the team and a huge thank you to all our fans who attended, everyone who helped the fighters prepare and our sponsor for the event Caged Steel.
